Through jobsite tours, classroom presentations, career fairs, and hands-on experiences, we’re helping students discover the many opportunities available in the construction industry while connecting classroom learning to real-world careers.
Bringing the Classroom to the Jobsite
One of the most impactful ways students learn about construction is by experiencing it firsthand. Nunn welcomes students onto active jobsites where they can see how planning, teamwork, and skilled craftsmanship come together to create the buildings that serve their communities.
Recently, students from Crowley County High School visited Nunn’s Canon City High School project as part of their Homes of the Future curriculum. Walking an active construction site gave them an up-close look at how ideas become reality while introducing them to the many careers that make every project possible.

Katherine Stangier, a former intern and now Project Engineer with Nunn, wished for more of a complete picture of the trades during her educational career.
“When I was a student, I wish the industry and the career paths were explained more in depth. Looking ahead, I want to be the person who opens the door to show students opportunities in construction.”
From observing steel erection and precast panel welding to witnessing a live concrete pour, students gained exposure to the dynamic and collaborative nature of construction. Our trade partners also allowed students to try on gear and demonstrate the skills required for their jobs. These experiences help students understand how architects, engineers, project managers, skilled trades, and owners collaborate to bring a building from concept to completion.

“Getting students involved in the projects we are building in their community makes a meaningful impact and allows us to get them involved in what is going into the projects we are building for them.”
Engaging Students in Their Own Classrooms
Nunn’s outreach extends beyond the field. Team members visit local classrooms to share their own career journeys, explain the wide variety of roles within commercial construction, and answer students’ questions about entering the industry.

These sessions aren’t just lectures, they’re conversations. Students engage in Q&A discussions, ask about real career journeys, and allow students to begin to see construction as a viable and rewarding future. These conversations spark the imagination of students who may be better-suited for a job that emphasizes hands-on problem-solving, physical engagement, and project-based work, rather than a traditional office-focused job.
Expanding Career Opportunities
Through career fairs, classroom visits, and partnerships with organizations like Careers in Construction Colorado, Nunn continues to introduce students to opportunities they may never have considered. Whether discussing Building Information Modeling (BIM), field operations, project management, estimating, or skilled trades, team members provide an authentic look at what a career in construction can offer.

For Katherine, attending career fairs to engage with students is more spreading broad scale awareness.
“My goal with every student engagement event is to broadcast the commercial construction industry and the multitudes of opportunities that come with it. Overall, I think every career fair or tour so far has motivated students to learn more about joining the industry.”
