Day in the Life: Andrew Everett, Superintendent

Building with Purpose

As a Construction Superintendent at Nunn, Andrew Everett oversees every moving part of the job site, ensuring that each project is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. From the first morning walk to the final inspection of the day, Andrew plays a key role in bringing our projects to life while leading his team with focus and integrity.

“My role is to oversee and coordinate all on-site construction activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.”

From Tool Runs to Terminal Projects

Andrew’s journey into construction started early, at just 16 years old, when he got his first job delivering tools to job sites for his father’s friend, a General Superintendent. That early exposure to large-scale projects in Oklahoma City sparked a lifelong passion for building.

Now, years later, Andrew is leading one of Nunn’s most high-profile projects: the Durango Airport Phase 1B2 expansion. The scope of this project has included foundation work, installation of MEP systems underground, and a major concrete pour. This project has also included a remodel of the existing baggage claim area, including the installation of new joists and structural steel, progress that requires meticulous coordination and communication.

The Rhythm of a Superintendent’s Day

Andrew’s days begin before most of the crew arrives. His first task? Walking the site.

“My typical workday starts with a site walk to check safety, cleanliness, and progress from the previous day.”

After reviewing progress and setting priorities, Andrew leads a morning foremen’s meeting at 9:00 a.m. to discuss goals, safety reminders, and coordination between trades. From there, he spends the day tracking progress, resolving challenges, updating schedules, and inspecting work for quality.

By the time he leaves, he’s taken another walk through the site, reviewing the day’s accomplishments, planning for tomorrow, and ensuring every detail is accounted for.

Leading with Calm and Clarity

When unexpected challenges arise, and in construction, they always do, Andrew’s approach is steady and solutions-driven.

“Stay calm, while assessing the situation quickly, and bringing together the right people whether it’s subcontractors, engineers, or project managers to find the right solution”

He believes great leadership starts with communication and mutual respect. Whether he’s coordinating with trade partners or mentoring newer crew members, Andrew prioritizes transparency, teamwork, and a shared commitment to excellence.

Tools of the Trade

Andrew relies on modern construction tools like Procore, Bluebeam, and ASTA Scheduling to keep projects running smoothly. His training in Lean Construction principles has shaped his approach to efficiency and continuous improvement.

But at the end of the day, Andrew says his most valuable tool is something simpler: communication.

“Good communication skills are what I rely on most as a Superintendent.”

The Nunn Way

When asked what makes Nunn’s culture stand out, Andrew doesn’t hesitate:

“Nunn’s culture allows for open dialogue between crews, management, and trade partners, encouraging proactive problem-solving and improvement.”

That culture is also what makes company traditions like the annual Christmas party his favorite, viewing it as a time to reconnect with teams from Colorado Springs and Pueblo, share stories, and celebrate another year of hard work together.

Beyond the Jobsite

After a long day managing crews and schedules, Andrew recharges by spending time outdoors with his wife and kids, shooting, bowhunting, or riding four-wheelers on their land. It’s the perfect balance to the high-energy pace of construction life.

When asked what his team’s “theme song” would be, he laughs and answers instantly:

Hard Hat and a Hammer by Alan Jackson.”

Advice for Future Builders

For those considering a career as a Superintendent, Andrew offers simple but powerful advice:

“Read the book Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink.”

He adds that success in this field isn’t just about technical expertise, but rather about leadership, accountability, and a willingness to learn from every experience.

“It’s not just about knowing how to build; it’s about knowing how to lead people.”

Proud Moments

Andrew’s proudest achievements so far include completing Phase 1B1 of the Durango Airport project, the new baggage claim, and being selected as the General Contractor for the upcoming Three Springs Elementary School. Both milestones highlight not only his skill as a builder but also his leadership and dedication to Nunn’s mission of Building Projects that Matter.
