Nunn Continues to Grow Roots in El Paso County

Reminiscing back to 1984, when Nunn Construction completed their very first education project for Academy School District 20 at the Foothills and High Plains Elementary Schools – the roots were planted for Nunn’s knowledge and commitment to building educational facilities throughout the state of Colorado. In 34 years of business, Nunn Construction has built nearly 100 PK-12 Educational Facilities throughout Colorado, 57 of those are located within El Paso County – and the roots continue to grow.

Since the new year, Nunn Construction was awarded four PK-12 projects within El Paso County for Academy School District 20 and El Paso County School District 49.

District 49 is one of Colorado’s fastest growing School Districts and it’s been over a decade since voters approved the building of new schools. Nunn Construction is passionate about being an integral part of our growing community in Northeast Colorado Springs and is honored to continue our relationship with District 49. The first project, beginning in May 2017, is a renovation to the existing Sand Creek High School. The renovation will include a Media Center, Computer Labs, a Maker Space and Lounge Areas. Work will be completed over two summers and will wrap up in August of 2018. The second project, which will break ground in the summer of 2018, is a 70,000+ SF elementary school near Banning Lewis Ranch. Nunn is working closely with DLR Architects and Wember, Owners Representative, on these projects.

Academy School District 20 is the preeminent school district for public education choices amongst Colorado Springs families. As our community continues to grow in population, and young families, the D20 borders are master planned and predicted to absorb thousands of new students in the coming years. As the District continues to grow and expand, so does the need for new facilities to support top-notch educational opportunities. In February, Nunn was awarded a Design-Build contract with Hord Coplan Macht Architects for a new Elementary School, Innovation Learning Center and a Campus Master Plan Design. Design is currently underway and Nunn will break ground this summer for a substantial completion toward the end of Summer 2018.

Just weeks before being awarded D20’s Elementary School and Innovation Learning Center, Nunn Construction was awarded the Fine Arts addition to the Classical Academy’s North Campus. The addition will include an Elementary Gymnasium and a 650 seat auditorium for all fine and performing arts activities. Ancillary spaces are also included in the contract and include; a new prominent front entrance, cafeteria spaces, restrooms, scene construction room and a black box theater. Construction will begin this summer and substantial completion will occur Summer of 2018.

Nunn Construction is honored with the opportunity to be an essential component in the growth of our children and their community within Colorado Springs. Stay tuned to our website, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages for project updates throughout the coming years!
