Providing learning facilities for all ages from kindergarten through eighth grade, Cesar Chavez Academy has capacity for more than 600 elementary students and staff. The two-story facility was originally built to house the Ersilia Cruz Middle School students before transitioning into it’s master-planned intent as an elementary school. The building transitioned once a BEST Grant funded permanent middle school addition attached to Dolores Huerta Preparatory High School was built. CHPA Celebrates Opening of BEST Grant Funded Addition
Throughout design and construction, Nunn Construction and CRP Architects prioritized the client’s goal to accommodate a wide age range of children due to the multi-use long-term function of the building. The open commons area features durable finishes, such as tile and polished concrete floors, which are set to withstand the decades of daily use. Other design highlights include a new gym for Lu interactive games, kitchen with on-site baking, an outdoor theater, expanded art program with spaces dedicated to dance and mariachi classes, and an open commons with upper-level balcony.
The school is surrounded by new landscaping and parking lots with spacious parking and a new outdoor basketball court. This new facility will be the benchmark for Chavez Huerta Preparatory Academy’s future plans and expansion in the west side of Pueblo.
