Market

Since 1905, Woodman Hall has stood at the heart of downtown Fountain, Colorado. With its rich history and multifaceted past—including time spent as a general store, post office, movie theater, and roller rink—this iconic structure is more than just a building. It’s a cornerstone of the community’s heritage.
Nunn Construction was proud to be part of Woodman Hall’s ongoing story through a comprehensive renovation project aimed at restoring its character while modernizing its functionality for future generations.
A Phased Approach to Historic Renewal
Completing work in January 2024, Woodman Hall was a multi-phased restoration project. Phased construction focused on the second floor, where we remodeled tenant kitchens and restrooms and completed key MEP and utility upgrades. That project not only improved day-to-day usability but also reinforced the importance of strategic construction in occupied and sound sensitive spaces. With tenants such as a yoga studio and massage lounge operating on the upper level, great care was taken to minimize noise and dust throughout the renovation.
One phase focused on the main level ‘Grand Hall’, with a scope that included interior renovations, HVAC system improvements, and façade upgrades including the addition of two new storefronts with architectural canopies that face both Main Street and Fountain City Hall.
These improvements aim to revitalize the ground level into a flexible, inviting space that encourages public engagement while maintaining the charm and architectural rhythm of the original structure.

Enhancing Systems, Structure, and Safety
Beyond aesthetic improvements, the project includes critical behind-the-scenes upgrades to ensure the building’s long-term performance. These include a complete fire suppression system installation throughout the facility, thermal insulation improvements to support energy efficiency, and structural reinforcement of existing elements for added safety and resilience
This infrastructure work is essential for bringing a 120-year-old building into compliance with modern codes—without losing sight of its historic character.
Balancing History with Modernization
Working in a historic structure presents unique challenges—especially when the goal is to preserve its original features while enabling modern use. Every step of the project has required thoughtful coordination between the Nunn team, FURA (Fountain Urban Renewal Authority), and architect TDG Project Studio, ensuring that design decisions maintain the soul of the building while improving function.
Good examples of this balance are the black metal staircase, beadboard installation at the interior stairwell, a new transom window at the stair top, and infill of a stairwell-level door.
These subtle but important enhancements highlight our commitment to craftsmanship and preservation through adaptation.

Community Impact and Collaboration
The renovation of Woodman Hall was more than just a construction project—it’s a community investment. Spearheaded by FURA, the broader goal is to revitalize the downtown corridor of Fountain and encourage civic engagement through thoughtful development of historic assets.
With multiple stakeholders involved and a live-tenant environment, the project required close coordination with tenants, enhanced site cleanliness and dust control, and proactive communication with ownership and design teams.
We’ve also worked to ensure that warranty coverage remained intact during construction activities that impact newly installed equipment or finishes—critical for long-term building management.
Looking Ahead
The Woodman Hall project is a model for how public-private partnerships can successfully bring new life to aging infrastructure. At Nunn, we’re honored to contribute to this ongoing transformation—carefully navigating the line between old and new, preservation and progress.
By maintaining the historic charm of Woodman Hall while building in modern performance, we’re helping to ensure this beloved structure continues to serve the Fountain community for many years to come.
