Nunn Construction was proud to partner with Falcon School District 49 and Hollis+Miller Architects on the successful delivery of a transformative addition to Vista Ridge High School. The new 33,500 square foot classroom wing expands learning opportunities for students by bringing cutting-edge Career and Technical Education (CTE) spaces to the forefront of public education in Colorado Springs.

Vista Ridge HS Hallway
Expanding Opportunity Through Innovation
The two-story addition introduces 18 new classrooms designed to support a broad range of project-based learning programs. These spaces empower students with hands-on experiences and real-world career preparation. From medical certifications and drone licensing to engineering fabrication, broadcast journalism, business, family and consumer sciences, and cybersecurity, students now have access to a dynamic catalogue of programs. These enhancements not only support learners of all types but also provide valuable pathways through certification opportunities, internships, and career-bridging experiences.
With this expansion, Vista Ridge High School increased its capacity by approximately 450 students, which helps alleviate overcrowding and provides space for continued growth.

Thoughtful Engineering for Long-Term Value
Through our collaborative preconstruction process, Nunn Construction identified a significant cost-saving opportunity for the District. The original structural design called for drilled piers up to five feet in diameter. After a thorough geotechnical investigation and close coordination with the structural engineer, our team proposed a revised shallow foundation system utilizing a 12-foot over-excavation. This smart solution reduced construction complexity and saved the District an estimated $1 million—funds that could be redirected toward enhancing the project scope.

Seamless Integration with Legacy-Focused Architecture
Originally constructed by Nunn in 1995, Vista Ridge High School featured distinct architectural finishes that the team desired to match with the new addition to preserve the original building’s character and create a cohesive campus. Nunn’s construction team worked diligently with Hollis+Miller and D49 to ensure that all new materials, from precast panels and coping to stucco finishes, seamlessly blended with the existing structure. Every color was verified during the submittal process and again at delivery, maintaining both aesthetic integrity and cost efficiency.

Added Value for the Community
Thanks to cost savings realized during construction, the team was able to add project elements such as a temporary parking lot and additional landscaping improvements—enhancements that support daily operations and improve the campus environment for students and staff.
The CTE addition at VRHS exemplifies Nunn Construction’s commitment to building educational environments that serve today’s students and set them up for success in tomorrow’s workforce. We’re honored to contribute to a future-ready Vista Ridge High School—where innovation meets opportunity.
