As Academy District 20 continues to grow and expand, so does the need for new facilities to support top-notch educational opportunities within the district. Legacy Peak Elementary School and the Center for Modern Learning are the first projects to be constructed on the 80-acre, PK-12 master planned campus, located in the Wolf Ranch Development of northeast Colorado Springs.

The project allowed for just 17 months to design and construct the new school. Prior to the completion of design, through a series of bid packages, the earthwork for the 19-acre Elementary School and CML site began in June 2017, just three months after our design-build team was awarded the project.

The Elementary School houses up to 600 preschool through fifth grade students with learning commons, gymnasium, cafeteria, art, music, and flex spaces for 21st Century learning. The Center for Modern Learning provides a new home for an additional 250 students participating in cyber security and coding classes, online schools, the Home School Academy, the Challenger Learning Center, among many others.

Despite the challenges with schedule and complexity, Nunn Construction delivered the project on time and within budget, allowing students to arrive for their first day of class in the project based, 21st Century learning environment.

  • Fast-Track, Ground-Up Construction Project
  • First Project of an 80-Acre Master Planned School Site
  • Extensive Site Work Including Parking, Outdoor Classrooms, Playgrounds and Playing Fields
  • The Center for Modern Learning Includes: Cybersecurity, Robotics, Science, Art, Music and Dance/Movement Specialty Classrooms
“The happiest moments of the construction project really centered around two things. Nunn not only returned the project earlier than when we expected, they also returned money to the district.”
Tom Gregory Deputy Superintendent/CFO, Academy District 20
