On Friday, November 17th, through the Association of General Contractors, Nunn Construction received the Award for Construction Excellence – Contribution to the Community for our work at the Springs Rescue Mission in Colorado Springs, CO. The Contribution to the Community Award is given to a project that had significant company and employee participation in civic affairs and/or donation of manpower for community projects and benefit. Judging was based on five categories:
1. Special Needs Met
2. Company and Employee Participation and/or Donation of Manpower
3. Impact on the Community
4. Historical or Long-Range Value to the Community
5. Environmental/Safety Approach
‘Neighbors helping neighbors – Springs Rescue Mission provides food, shelter, support and most importantly, ‘hope’ to neighbors in the Pikes Peak Region that need it most. SRM’s services range from life-sustaining aid to rehabilitative housing and job training, all with the goal of promoting transformation and empowering a path out of homelessness.
Inspring a deep sense of dignity and hope for our neighbors in need, Nunn Construction built the new resource center and year-round shelter, focusing on the men and women in our community that need these spaces to survive. The opening of the year round, low-barrier shelter in November 2016 was a stabilizing force in helping those who have lived on the streets for years, once again, become vital members of society.
A first of its kind in El Paso County, the unified campus brings all required services into one location serving 270-300 people daily, providing triple the amount of sleeping spaces that were available in the past. It was an honor to work alongside such a passionate non-profit organization and reminds us how truly gratifying it is to build projects that matter to our community.’
