The multi-phase expansion on the Southwest Memorial Hospital Campus in Cortez, CO includes a new medical office building, 18 bed inpatient wing addition, new main lobby entry and a new emergency room entrance. The health campus upgrades provide increased comfort, safety and privacy for the patients and visitors of SWMH.

The new 26,062 sq.ft. patient wing replaces the second floor of the existing hospital. Benefits of the new wing include: improved security and safety, expanded areas for family waiting, advanced intensive care units, and a new family birthing center with full service labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum rooms.

The 24,316 sq.ft. medical office building currently houses 18 different medical providers and specialists under one roof, including a retail pharmacy. The MOB is located adjacent to the main hospital for ease of access to additional services.

In order for the existing hospital to remain completely operational, coordination and communication with facilities staff played a critical role while the patient wing was being constructed. Relocating the emergency entrance, staff entrance, and parking on the medical campus posed challenges during construction. To ensure the community was well informed of changes that were constantly occurring at the hospital, Nunn paid particular attention to temporary signage and community outreach throughout the duration of construction.
