The previous Road and Bridge shop at the north end of Dove Creek was antiquated and no longer served the programmed needs of the county. Additionally, the equipment the county uses was too large for their previous shop, prompting the need for a new facility. The new Public Service Center and Shop now combines three separate departments into one cohesive building.

The one story building includes offices that support staff and house administrative functions, an Emergency Operations Center with space for appropriate technology vital for emergency services, and a large conference room that is used for community meetings and Road and Bridge training. The shop portion is used for maintenance and housing of county equipment, vehicles and parts.

The auto and truck bays within the shop space include universal vehicle lifts, a 10-ton fixed shop crane and ceiling-mounted retractable power cords. Additional bays consist of a tire area, welding bay, shop mechanical room, and two drive-through wash bays, indoor and outdoor.

The Public Service Center and Shop was constructed concurrently with the Senior Center, under the same contract, in Dove Creek, CO.
