The existing building, built in 1979, originally housed academic programs from the Schools of Engineering, Education, and the Automotive Industries Management program in separate wings. Consequently, the groups operated in silos with minimal interaction between students. The renovations provide collaboration spaces, student study areas, improves the connection to the outdoors, and encourages students to spend more time together in their building. Additionally, the building houses engineering labs including: Nanotechnology, Electronics and Controls Computer Lab, Computer Integrated Manufacturing Lab, Civil Engineering, and student research/projects labs.

Upgrades for building technology such as electrical, and mechanical systems were installed in order to meet current building codes and academic standards. The improvements improved circulation within the building and the modifications to the western entrance improved accessibility for persons with disabilities, as well as sound transmission reduction and insulation in classrooms.
